The Photography of Owen Perry

Above

The beautiful lull,
The dangerous tug
We get to feel small
From high up above
And after a glimpse
Over the top
The rest of the world
Becomes a gift shop

– Gordon Downie, Gift Shop

The world from an aerial perspective offers a renewed appreciation for the scale, shape and constitution our physical environment. High above the earth’s surface things imperceivable on the ground suddenly take on new meaning. An estuary experienced from the ground is a wet grassland buzzing with insects, bears, eagles, and half dead salmon. But viewed from 400m above it’s transformed into a veiny network of streams and islands glowing an impossibly vibrant green.

Images in the set are taken with a Phantom 4 drone. Locations include the Great Bear Rainforest, Bella Bella, and Pacific Rim National Park near Tofino.
